I still remember the moment I won an award in high school for this painting, which was part of a prestigious state-wide competition. To my surprise , I secured an 3rd place ribbon. The pride my father felt for my accomplishment was palpable, and to celebrate, he took my entire family downtown Detroit to proudly view my painting on display at Hudson’s Department Store.
